Ergonomics under load: vacuum conveying systems in the logistics industry

To increase efficiency and speed up work, and to protect the health of your employees, it is worth investing in ergonomic lifting equipment.
Herolifter develops customized transport solutions and crane systems. Manufacturers are also helping to reduce the time and cost of internal material flow while focusing on ergonomics.
In intralogistics and distribution logistics, companies must move large quantities of goods quickly and accurately. The process mainly includes lifting, rotating and moving. For example, crates or cartons are lifted and transferred from a conveyor belt to a transport trolley. Herolift has developed the Flex vacuum tube lifter for the dynamic handling of small workpieces weighing up to 50 kg. The control handle was developed by vacuum specialists together with the head of the department of ergonomics at the University . Regardless of whether the user is right-handed or left-handed, the load can be moved with one hand. Lifting, lowering and releasing the load can be controlled with just one finger.
With the built-in quick change adapter, the operator can easily change suction cups without tools. Round suction cups are available for cartons and plastic bags, while double and quadruple suction cups are available for opening, clamping, gluing or large flat workpieces. The Multi Vacuum Gripper is a more versatile solution for cartons of various sizes and specifications. Even when only 75% of the suction area is covered, the grippers can still lift the load safely.
The device has a special function for loading pallets. With traditional lifting systems, the maximum stack height is typically 1.70 meters. To make this process even more ergonomic, Herolift has developed the Flex High-Stack. Like the basic version, it is designed for dynamic cycles on compact workpieces up to 50 kg. The up and down movement is still controlled with only one hand. On the other hand, the operator guides the vacuum lifter with an additional guide rod. This allows the vacuum tube lifter to reach a maximum height of 2.55 meters ergonomically and effortlessly. The Flex High-Stack is equipped with a new release mechanism to prevent accidental dropping of workpieces. When the workpiece is lowered, the operator can only use the second control button to remove the workpiece.
When a task requires handling large and heavy loads, Herolift uses the vacuum tube lifter. Since the device is based on a modular system, the operator can individually adjust the suction power, lift height and control . For example, setting the operator handle to the correct length provides sufficient safety distance between worker and load. Instead of using only one hand. In this way, he is always in complete control of the weight. The Herolift vacuum tube lifter can therefore lift loads up to 300 kg ergonomically. Using a rotary handle similar to a motorcycle throttle, the control handle can be used to raise, lower, and release loads. With optional quick change adapters,  Herolift vacuum tube lifter can be easily adapted to different logistics operations. In addition, Herolift offers a wide range of suction cups for different workpieces such as cartons, boxes or drums.
In addition to a wide range of material handling equipment, Herolift also offers a wide range of crane systems. Aluminum column or wall mounted jib cranes are often used. They combine optimum low friction performance with lightweight components. This improves efficiency and speed without compromising positioning accuracy or ergonomics. With a maximum boom length of 6000 mm and a slewing angle of 270 degrees for the column jib crane and 180 degrees for the wall mounted jib crane, the working range of lifting devices is greatly expanded. Thanks to the modular system, the crane system can be perfectly adapted to existing infrastructure at minimal cost. This also allows Schmalz to achieve a high degree of flexibility while limiting the variety of core components.
Herolift is the world market leader in vacuum automation and ergonomic handling solutions. Herolift products are used worldwide in the logistics, glass, steel, automotive, packaging and woodworking industries. The wide range of products for automatic vacuum cells includes individual components such as suction cups and vacuum generators, as well as complete handling systems and clamping solutions for clamping workpieces.
